One of my computers has a strange problem since last
week. A partition was totally lost a few days ago.
Initially, Windows 2K reported the partition was invalid.
The OS then reported the partition as free space after
I rebooted the computer. This problem has occurred for
a couple of times since last week, but the computer
worked very well for more than one year before last week.
I did recover all my lost data using a tool, and found
that the directory structure and all data were still
untouched even though the partition was free space.
The partition has no damaged cluster after formatted,
so I think the problem was not caused by the hard drive.
I guess perhaps just the partition table was damaged.
How can I back up the extended partition table? What
can cause such a problem?
Note that the motherboard (Syntax S635MP) and CPU (VIA
C3 1.2G) bundle is cheap. Can it cause the problem?
Thank you in advance.
