Kids software!
Everybody always says how much free and open-source software there is
out there for Linux... usually people will point out the lack of proper
accounting or CAD software (which isn't really available for free, but
companies have made commercial offerings in this area), but hardly
anybody complains about decent kids software.
I mean, for Windows and Mac, there is *TONS* of educational and fun
stuff for kids (meaning grade school age or younger). What is there for
Linux? Potato Head guy (useless and boring), Tuxpaint (boring), and
some typing and math tutors (more stuff boringly done). Anybody even
know anything else?
Then you might say, well run it with Wine. Unfortunately, most kids
software is almost always written using something like DirectX (much
like all commercial games) which is not supported by Wine.
Seeing as there are a ton of people making money on childrens software,
this seems like a niche market somebody could fill on the Linux side.
Or maybe somebody is already doing this?
