ext2 is actually the traditional linux file system.
It can use the others though.

I've had a whole load of Maxtor drive failures recently, maybe you can add to
the list of failed drives on the Wiki.

My drives are ext2, and the third party incidents were from NTFS based
systems, so the problem is not due to FAT32.
In any event, I don't trust FAT32 as much.
Why not ?
I have used FAT32 since about 1994 (on Windows machines), and I have
had no problems with storage.
On the other hand, I have seen NTFS screw up big time on a couple of machines
(Windows XP), with files becoming unreadable, even by the system administrator. The drives
ended up being reformatted and the data lost.
I prefer FAT32 over NTFS. (Of course, I prefer ext2 over FAT32).
