Thanks both for your input.
I will have a look at ACL's but dont think they will quite suit as I
need to override any existing permissions on the files that are put into
this directory, regardless of what they are which will require root privs.
The way I need it to work is the same as the option to replace
permissions on all child objects with my permissions as applicable in
windoze in the security >> advanced dialog, but automatically, not
manually as I can already do that easier with chmod -r.
