Video editing

Just got a new camcorder [ Aiptek 4100M ]. And I want to edit the ASF [avi] files. I've tried Cinelerra, can't get it to work. kdenlive won't compile. Any recomendations? Something has got to be usable. I'm just looking for something to snip and cut to make the clips shorter and cleaner.
