I see two people who might be having a controversy, that doesn't exist but
is just a little misunderstanding. Strangely, I have found that some KDE
programs work in Gnome - Konkerer for example. I think it's because the
program is actually dependent on X which is the underlying basis for many of
the windows managers like KDE, Gnome, etc. I have noted that on one of my
linux systems, the fonts are handled by X, so its might work in Gnome for
you. I can imagine how staring at a blurry font can give you a headache.
Might try installing the font program he mentioned. The worst that is
likely to happen is that it won't work, and then you can just uninstall it.
