You know I did a Google search for posts by you and found some interesting
information. You yourself are new to linux according to your post I refer to
below. How is it that you are representing yourself as being quite
knowledgeable at linux when you just started out mid-November 2005?

In November, you posted in a Debian forum on Debian.org that you were just
starting out on Linux as a newbie and wished to find a linux that wasn't so
difficult to install, and you were directed towards Ubuntu and followed the
advice. Good move fellow! I find the distro a real nice and easy to use
Linux. Installing kernels, is a snap, no worrying about lilo and stuff.
Slackware is kind of neat if you wish to get into the nitty gritty of things
which is why I use both, depending on my mood. I first started using
slackware in 1985 for about a year, but I got side-tracked and I consider
myself a newbie still.

I use slackware, and Ubuntu both, and I wished to let you know that since
you are a ubuntu user, you can verify what I mentioned.

About four days ago, I backed up my Ubuntu drive and had a go at trying to
install KDE from the repositories via the Synaptic package manager. I had
when I first started out with Ubuntu, download several apps for KDE, that I
did not notice were not for Gnome and I like some of the features of KDE.
The Euphoria screensaver is awesome, very pleasing to look at. Anyway, I
used Synaptic to install KDE in Ubuntu, and found that I could choose to log
into KDE or Gnome by clicking session when about to log in. The only thing I
had to do was hand-insert the sync values into xorg.conf. Anyway, after I
was done, I noted a number of applications that were for KDE in my Gnome
menus. One of these was Konkerer(sp) and much to my surprise it ran in
Gnome!

A number of other apps did the same, but the KDE browser was the one I tried
out. Also if you look at the /var/log/xorg.0.log file, you will note that
there are references to fonts within. Also in /etc/X11/xorg.conf there are
font paths near the top and font loading instructions as well. Xorg, refers
to XWindows, which is a software package, that supports Gnome, KDE, xwfm,
and a few others. KDE and Gnome calls libraries within xorg's X windows
library to accomplish their many tasks, including the resolutions and types
of devices the GUI uses such as mice, multiple displays, define the desired
video card driver, keyboard, fonts, and other shared display properties.

So, really, if you feel brave enough to try and it's not difficult, you can
install KDE in Ubuntu Breezy and see for yourself that some of the apps for
KDE become available under Gnome in Ubuntu. If you are not so brave, and I
would not blame you for not wanting to risk breaking something that isn't
already broken, you should go explore, the locations of the fonts, and you
will find many if not all of them are listed in the xorg.conf file, not a
part of KDE Or Gnome, You will find them under directories or soft links
named X11 or X11RXXX, and you will see that it is not at all unreasonable to
think that if the fonts are listed in Xorg files and directories under X11
in /user/X11, and /etc/X11 and if a KDE browser actually runs under Gnome
too, it is not a stretch at all to think that just maybe the font program
might solve your Gnome font display issue, since it is obvious to anyone who
cares to take the time to just go have a look, that fonts are often shared
BETWEEN KDE and Gnome because they are defined and used by the X11 library
both GUI's utilize.

Call me clueless all you want, but that won't change the locations of these
fonts and the fact that the base software KDE and Gnome use. Go have a look
and then come back and tell me why these fonts are in X11 directories and
utilized by xorg.conf which is used by Gnome and KDE why do you think these
fonts are not shared fonts. I am sure, everyone would be interested in this.
In the interested of seeing this reply, I'm going to unkillfile you.
