Can all you noobs stop making such stupid and sweeping statements? What
you really meant was the distros you've used aren't ready for *your*
desktop because it's sure as hell ready for mine and many, many other
people's desktop. I know this because we're using it on our desktops
very successfully.

Wrong. It can be if that's how you choose to use it.

I'm using OS X right now and I can tell you I spend just as much time
using the command line here as I do when I'm running Linux or FreeBSD.
In the case of all three OSs it's there if you want it but you don't
need it.
Windows has a poor excuse for a command line but that may be changing.
>From what I've read Vista may well have a much better, and more UNIX
influenced, command line when it's released. If that's true then it
would seem that even MS have realised the need for a good CLI from time
to time, especially for admins. It's just Windows users (as opposed to
power users and admins) who have been taught to do everything via point
and click interfaces who don't realise the need for a good CLI from time
to time.
Instead of spouting crap like the "not ready for the desktop" line why
not either work with the KDE/Gnome/other WM or DE devs to improve the
GUI or just admit that you've failed with Linux and stay with Windows?
That would hopefully keep a lot of this noise out of the NGs so that
those noobs who appreciate the work done on free OSs can get the help
they want to make a success of their chosen free OS.
