Re: Considering switch to linux

I said nothing about KDE either. What I do know that since the original poster is experiencing those easily avoided problems with XP, then he's likely to have a difficult time with Linux, just as I am.

I said it's not.

The least I would do if I had a problem with my fonts: I'd use Google.

But of course that requires one to know that we're talking about TrueType font technology here from Linotype and Apple. Also Microsoft has got their fonts from there, you probably thought it's their fonts to start with. didn't you?

Since you have no clue about fonts you just can't even find them in Google. Instead you say fonts don't work.

I probably know a bit more than the average PC user. I build my own PCs and upgrade them as well. I have 3 OSs on my main PC, and two on my media PC. I also burned Beatrix Linux to a CD. It runs from the CD - very cool.

Define average user.

Try some bootloaders, you might end up with 256 OSSs on your self put together computas.

And putting this crap together makes you no expert in Linux or any other fonts that you talk about. How do you think most of the people here get their boxes. Preinstalled with something?

And so you've heard of, even found some, live distro. So what? There's hundreds of them. Some people roll their own. That would probably be something for you. Roll your own live distro with TrueType font support.

BTW - my Windows OSs are Retail versions.

Is that a good thing? Funny, I've always thought that the ones who put their shit together themselves use OEMs.

Anyway, Linux, for me, is turning out to be much more difficult to use than I anticipated.

It might help to smoothen your path to have just a bit different attitude. Keep that crap up and you're on your own.
