Kanotix no host on network!

Hi all,
I just installed Kanotix (2005-04 RC20) for the first time.I am having a problem seeing the host computer. Here is my network setup.I have two computers connected via a crossover cable.Host computer can access the client and share files but client can't see host or access files. When I start samba server all I get is a bouncing icon for about 30 seconds and nothing happens.Any help would be appreciated.I also have
mandriva, pclinuxos and mepis installed and the network works ok with these distros.
