I'm a KDE fan so I like Kubuntu. Here are the main features I like
about it:
1. Great hardware support. I've never had a problem with hardware and
I've thrown old and new stuff at it multiple times.
2. Fresh packages. They are very up to date on new software releases.
3. Great package management. apt-get as package management system is
the only way to go.
4. Easy upgrades. Supports dist-upgrade for new releases.
5. Online support. They have quite the repository for supporting all
aspects of running a linux machine. http://www.ubuntu.com/support
The only con I see, especially for the new user, is the install. It
isn't as "point-and-click" friendly as some others, but if you're
semi-technical you will have no problem with it.
I was a SimplyMEPIS fan for some time, but you couldn't just
dist-upgrade it for the new releases.
Hope this helps.
