Like the subject says, I still can't get myPlease take just one hour class about tcpip networking basics, like

This link seemed to be a step-by-step howto:
http://www.comptechdoc.org/os/linux/usersguide/linux_ugbasicnet.html
so I tried using it.
I worked out in an earlier exchange here
that Linux loads the '8139too' module on
startup. I picked 255.255.252.0 as
netmask because that's what 'winipcfg' has
for subnet mask on the Windows box. Likewise
'70.64.4.1' for default gateway.

this one.
Do NOT mix a local network with the ISP connection.
Since you probably got only one IP from your ISP ("single account"), you
need a 2nd interface for the LAN. That interface may be a virtual one, but
it's far better to spend a few bucks for a 2nd nic - or use a residential
gateway router with NAT built-in, and a knowledgeable person to configure
it for you.
