Hi..
Which Linux Distribution do you use and why do you like it. Some
features also about it plese do mention.
Pai
I run Debian. Debian is plenty fast and is almost 0 maintenance when it
comes to updates and such. Very fast and easy to setup. My first choice
for any server.
I also use Slackware 10 on my backup server. I love Slackware because it
is the most linux like linux out there. By that I mean that I can
compile and run any program on Slack, no need for packages or anything
of that sort. If you need to run alot of very exotic applications I
would go with Slack. With Debian if you compiling something from scratch
you never have the right library installed, and often times you have to
compile libraries from source instead of loading them from a package.
Never that problem with Slack.
I used to have MEPIS on my laptop, and it came the closest to being
completely useable. Unfortunately my laptop does not go into hibernation
no matter what ACPI drivers I install, and has problems controlling the
power of the internal WiFi card, so in short, I run Windows XP :( But
over all MEPIS is very good. Would recommend it if you want to have
everything that Debian offers but in a nicer package.
SUSE is ok, but in general I try to stay away from RPM based
distributions. That's just a personal choice based on bad experience
with RH7.
That about covers it, oh, one more thing. I have nothing but contempt
for Gentoo. Please do not flame. I simply would like to point out that
there is absolutely no advantage to having a distribution that takes
fore ever to install and all you get for your trouble is extra
millisecond on performance test. I would argue that compiling from
scratch a database or web server is worth it, but I do not need that
much performance from firefox or nano. And, if you need speed that bad,
just run Slack. Admittedly, if you really need a very highly tuned
install, Gentoo is perfect, but for any other applications (especially
if you are installing it on a laptop) it is way overkill.
