Another great sources to answer most of the questions are:
http://ubuntuguide.org/
http://help.ubuntu.com/starterguide/C/faqguide-all.html
http://ubuntuforums.org
Try typing your exact error message in the forum's search box and you
might find a thread with the answers to the similar or even an exact
problem that you have!
Good luck!

I have just finished installing ubuntu and I got this error message
after running through the entire setup. I believe I was just ready to
see the gui for the first time. One of the last questions I had to
answer during setup was the display resolution. I have a dell 20" wide
screen, I put a astriek check in the 1650 x 1050 setting as well as a
few others,
I understood that it would choose the best setting automatically.
But my display now gives me "Will not display in this mode" error
message every time I reboot ubuntu. I can boot up in safe mode but I
don't know any of the commands that might help me solve this problem.
Does anybody know what I might have done wrong and how I can correct
it? Thanks, Lindsey
sorry I do not know enoiugh about ubuntu yet but there are forums I
expect , particularly try
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/
btw, a bit odd I know, but I have noticed it is fairly quick and easy
to install linux compared to my old 'doze experience, so when I did
screw up in linux as a newbie, I did not mind so much!
good luck.
