Hi everyone. I am interested in trying out Linux, but the obvious
problem is that I'm overwhelmed by the choice of distributions. Can
anyone recommend one that is good for general purpose usage, but
preferably one that I can stick with (not something to 'learn' with, and
then move on to another version). I'd also like to use one that is
fairly popular and well-supported, but I don't know which is which.
Obviously Red Hat is a big name, but at their site they seem to focus on
enterprise versions, which seem too big for me.
Thanks,
John
Get Slackware, it's easy to install and you'll learn more about linux in a
day on it when on other distros is a year. I learned on Slack and know
more because of it.
Debian is a good choice if you just want to use linux and don't care how
it works, etc. I use Debian because it's the easiest distro to live with.
