We've SCO Unix installed on our servers. I don't know much about the

we are using windows clients with Smarterm
(www.svamsoftware.com/newsvam2/products/smarterm/default.asp) and RPM
(remote printing manager - http://www.brooksnet.com). Are there any
alternatives for these 2 applications on linux. If there are any
alternatives, kindly tell me. So, we can migrate our clients to linux.

What sort of terminal is your Smarterm application emulating? The
answer to your question depends on the terminal that is being
emulated. I have found that several SCO Unix text mode applications
including their scosh "desktop" application work just fine in a
remote xterm. See here:

http://www.eracc.com/images/running_scosh_remotely_in_Eterm.png

That is a snapshot of GNU/Linux Eterm running scosh. The connection
is over the internet to one of our client's web and e-mail gateway on
a non-standard port via SSH for security. Then from there we telnet
to the SCO OpenServer system, login and can have scosh start at login
or start it from the command prompt. Works just fine. Eterm is a
version of what is known as an xterm. If you think about it, this
means your employees could access the system from home or on the road
if you need that type of access. The SCO system has to be at least
the Enterprise release which includes networking for this type of
remote access.

As for the printing have you looked at CUPS? http://www.cups.org/

BTW, my company is an authorized SCO OpenServer and UnixWare reseller
and can help you with this if needed. Of course if you are not in the
USA we would need to discuss travel arrangements. To get in touch
with us about helping you with a Linux desktop migration:

You could also find likely candidates to help you with this in your
local area. I would recommend you look for people that do know about
SCO systems as those systems are not "standard" Unix. If you want to
find someone near you see this URL:
