Linux, buggy and unstable at the application layer, always in some half
baked beta release even when it is declared stable, poor and often
lacklustre hardware support, rarely supported and seldom back by big
software developers and hardware manufactures, fine as a web server yet
poor as a desktop OS, not quite as secure and immune to viruses and worms
<snip>
I started fooling with Linux back in 1999
and have been dual booting Windows and Linux ever since.
I do think that it was overhyped originally.
The reason I thought I should give it a try was because I was led to believe
that it was free,
better than Windows in most ways, could not crash and would run "lightning
fast"
even on a 386.
None of that was true at all. I had tried Red Hat 5.2 and it was buggy and
crashed a lot.
As far as running on a 386...that turned out to mean : In the command prompt
mode.
Heck msdos can run on an 8086!!!
Anyway...over the years I kept giving Linux another try...
and now I find it quite good...
The new versions are easy to install, easy to use...and really are very
stable and secure...
So I'm using Linux maybe 40% of the time now and like it
.
