Either use dd or a simple cp with the -a switch... Be sure to mount
the source drive ro so as not to complicate the copy...

And also be warned that the way of mounting has nothing to do with
'dd' not being able to write to that disk. You really want to mount
read-only, though, since you don't want any changes written to the
disk half way through the backup.
