Sorry about the lack of details:
Ubuntu 6.06
Video card: Nvidia Riva TNT2
GUI: X
Monitor: Dell 21" LCD
My questions is: where should I start looking on how to fix this? I
see that when I run X, it only takes up about 3/4 of the screen, with
this 2 inch black unused space around it. I'm not sure where to start
and how to change it.

Hi,
I'm new to linux and when I installed linux, the text and the curser
was "below" the screen, about an inch virtually.
Adjust monitor, windows and linux treat some monitors differently, just
like dos and windows do.
I was wondering if this is something that I can fix in linux, could it
be a driver problem? or is this a problem with my monitor? The monitor
works good with a windows machine.
It's nice that it works well with windows, what distro have you installed,
changing screen resolutions, refresh rates etc differs a little from distor
to distro. A lot more information as to your distro, your monitor, your
video card and the gui you are attempting to use would allow others to help
you.
