I want to turn off the laptop screen, but X seems to think that they're
both the same screens..

This doesn't happen in init 3, only one screen shows up and function +
f8 switches from one to the next..

Is there a way of switching JUST the laptop screen off?

xset dpms force off turns both screens off also.. And closing the
laptop lid does nothing.

That have been possible with laptop's function-key's in every laptop I've seen so far, perhaps Fn+F8 several times? (Give it a few sec's to do it's thing before pressing again?)
