Okay, I've decided to go with an Ubuntu LAMP server with the IPConfig

A lot depends on what you are going to be using the server for. Is it a
dedicated box connected to the Internet in a colo with a OC-3 connection
to the world, or is it a hobbyist box doing everything from serving web
pages, DNS, authentication, web development, and surfing for pr0n.
Currently, I have a old 10 gig pentium 2. I'd like a 20 gig P3,
I've heard of overclocking, but that is totally ridiculous. Now I suspect
that you've munged the terms a bit, and the 10/20 gig refers to disk size.
but I have no idea wherem to get one. Those typically aren't beside the
baby clothes at local yard sales.
No, they're usually in the garage or up on the porch where Grandma won't
trip over it, and it can be powered up to show how wonderful it is.
Is there an online company that deals in old computers with any
reputability??
I've never bother to look, but did you try searching on google for used
compuer sales?

Usually, I get systems direct from the user (or company). Another source is
the commercial supplier who takes things in on trade, or the used/recycling
service (there are 14 businesses listed under "Computers-Used" in my Yellow
Pages). And then, about 2 months ago, I was dropping off some junk at the
"GoodWill" store (see also St. Vincent dePaul, or Salvation Army Thrift
stores), and bought a system for $20 from someone who was giving it away
to Goodwill.
This is a designated web server for one site so it doesn't need to be a
cutting edge machine.
Servers rarely have to be. Where I work, nearly all the servers are
re-cycled workstations, when the user convinces his manager that he needs
the latest 4.2 GHz Quad Pentium with 8 Gigs of RAM for his secretary. We
get the hand-me-downs, and after replacing the drive (we use SCSI on our
servers, not IDE) and seeing that the RAM is max'ed out, it goes into the
server room, probably replacing a three or four year old system that gets
tossed. (That's another source of systems by the way.) Servers don't need
great video capabilities, or X, so that often allows a "crap" system to
perform useful service long after the users are whining about their
workstation being slower than an IBM XT because they're running every
piece of eye-candy crap available on the web.
