This is prolly a semi-stupid question, but please bear with me.

I've got an ASRock K7VM3 board (new), that the docs say will operate at
1.2 ghz, the closest chip I've found so far is an AMD Sempron 1.67ghz.

Am I correct in assuming that the 1.67ghz cpu in the 1.2ghz board simply
means that the cpu will not need to work as hard as it would if it were
a 1.2ghz?

If the 1670MHz CPU is an "open" one, you can theoretically run it on the
board, then it would work as a 1200MHz CPU. If the CPU is a "locked" one, then
it will not work at all as it needs a board that supports 1670MHz.

You will most likely have trouble with the BIOS which will most likely not
recognize the CPU.

Thanks, that bit about BIOS possibly not recognizing it is enough for
me, I'll wait until I find the right cpu.
