Re: Skype

In alt.os.linux Jeffrey <merlot@xxxxxxxxxx>:
Hi
Anyone have any idea when Skype for Linux will allow video cams?

Not at all. At least the latest beta version supports ALSA and
seems a little step forward but it doesn't support cams.

There are alternatives like amsn and egika, amsn doesn't support
V4L2, egika (iirc) does. More should be found with a search
on freshmeat.net.

Though this might not be a great option for you, if all your
contacts just use skype? Perhaps drop Skype a polite mail, asking
for a Linux version with cam support (V4L2)? It might depend in
addition on how many Linux user are actually using it. I'm pretty
sure skype knows the number exactly. You could ask skype, perhaps
they'll tell?

There was lately some rumor about a Chinese skype clone.
