Hi;
Firstly, I wouldn't recommend anyone run X apps as root (not as bad as
what follows though), ...let alone a Web Browser Monster like Konqueror
(which is a huge all-in-one type explorer). But if you really need to
fire up KDE as root (only the Lord knows why)...I think there's
actually a way (perhaps look at the "Run" box output)...or 'KDE su'
If I enter K Control Center and try to enter System Admin "Login
Manager" area, one needs root (admin) privs to change those settings,
so clicking on "Admin Mode" throws up a dialog box that says in part;
------------------
The action you requested needs root privileges. Please enter root's
password below...blah, blah, yada, yada...
Command : "kcmshell kdm --embed SomeRandomNumberXXxx --lang en_US"
-----------------
So one can see the actual commandline invoked -- so I'm sure the
correct one is "somewhere" and may include 'kdeinit' or even maybe a
'sudo /usr/bin/startkde' (as seen in output of 'ps aux', though most of
those seem tied to my userid#) These OTOH;
/usr/bin/kdm
/usr/bin/X -br :0 vt7 -auth /var/run/xauth/ xxSomeRandomNumberXx
are tied to root.
If none of my solutions(?) provide any help, I may eventually look intoyes i'm agree;
playing with; Ending the session(s), and trying to start KDE from a VT
as root user - but AFAIK, that shouldn't be necessary.
but my ntfs partition is not accessible as read for users;
i have changed the mount options in fstab but that is just ineffective
Regards
.
