People are generally too stupid for self discovery. It has to be heavily
advertised in the media to them to pick up on anything. They are already
saturated with useless garbage. Linux is not on the public menu. Only
people who push the envelope or cross the line will try it. The hoards
of sheep will not.

Simplicity is attractive, mainstream desktop distributions could strip the crap out of the already opaque Gnome desktop and make it look like a Mac or even simpler, but it would still confuse the shit out of the average Joe who's main complaint may sounds something like "I downloaded a lot of music but I don't know where it went". ...
