gmplayer is just a symbolic link to mplayer.
# sudo rm /usr/bin/gmplayer
# sudo ln -s /usr/bin/mplayer32 /usr/bin/gmplayer
Now running gmplayer will start mplayer (mplayer32) with the GUI.
It appears you are correct, but I am a bit baffled. As my system shows
below (Mandriva 2006), gmplayer indeed links to mplayer. But why then
does (when typed in a console) 'gmplayer' bring up the GUI version of
mplayer, whereas 'mplayer' invokes the command line version of mplayer?
[beowulf@localhost ~]$ whereis gmplayer
gmplayer: /usr/bin/gmplayer
[beowulf@localhost ~]$ ls -l /usr/bin/gmplayer
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Jan 23 2006 /usr/bin/gmplayer -> mplayer*
.
