There should be no untrusted directories in your PATH. If there
are, remove them. If the standard system directories, /bin,
/usr/bin, etc., cannot be trusted you have much bigger problems.
I understand and completely agree with your view.
The advice can/might help if you happen to
have /usr stuff nfs mounted in a large environment.
Sometimes the local sysadmin has no choice but to to work with the
corporate network admins.
