Ubuntu 6.10 Newbie-Opening up Window Programs in Ubuntu

I am a very green newbie to Ubuntu 6.10. Is there a way to use Ubuntu
6.10 to open up Window programs. I am so dead to Windows and don't want
to go back if I can avoid it. Thanks.
