I didn't get this point. If I install a normal 32 bit linux with this
cpu, is that ok? I don't understand why you mention the 64 bit
kernel...
As far as I have understood of the IA64, it don't have a 32bits core and therefore can't run 32bits programs without emulation, which leads to that the kernel have to "emulate" for the CPU to be able to run the 32bits applications, which leads to that you need a 64bit kernel, no matter if the userspace is 32bits or 64bits (this method has been used on the Linux/Sparc).
