To your question - I think it's the very nature of what makes Linux what
it is (a loose confederacy of rouges against the business world "this is
mine" mentality) which prevents there being a centralized anything beyond
each distribution.
One has to wonder what effect it would have on linux usage if the general
population at least *knew* about linux. I think 90% of people we encounter
have no idea what linux is, that it even exists. Imagine what effect a
full page ad for linux could have if placed in some major newspapers, or
on some of the new digital billboards next to roads, etc. Or on the side
of a bus, etc. I just wish somehow linux could be made visible to the
average PC user; it would have been timely to do so now before Vista comes
out, let people know they have an alternative solution.
