It's depends on your taste, you have avidemux2, mplayer and transcode, all
these will just convert the avi to mpeg, burning you have to do with your
traditional tools.

I have avidemux2, I will try that-- open the avi file, see if avidemux2
will allow saving to mpeg, then try a burn and play in home DVD player.
That would be simple if it works.

I have an old xorg.conf for one card with tv-out

---- part of xorg.conf ----
Section "Device"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
Option "HWcursor" "True"
Option "NvAGP" "1" #remove this if you don't want to use nvagp
Option "ConnectedMonitors" "CRT,TV" #on newer drivers "CRT-0,TV-0"
Option "TVStandard" "PAL-B" #Standards are in the README
Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO"
Option "RenderAccel" "True"
Option "TwinView" "True" #Needed for this to work
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone" #change if you want
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50" #keep these values
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60" #keep these values
Option "MetaModes"
"1280x1024,NULL;1024x768,1024x768;800x600,800x600;NULL,1024x768;NULL,800x600"
Option "TVOverScan" "0.9" # max is 1.0
Option "BackingStore" "true"
Option "PageFlip" "true"
Identifier "Card0" # change to the identifier you have
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "[GeForce FX 5700LE]"
EndSection
---- eof ----

Thank you, I will save the above as a useful file to play with, get
s-video out working. It would be fun to do a LAN game and let guest
nongamers watch the multiplayer action with popcorn in my living room on
the 60" TV while the gamers play!

A good idea as usually is to make a backup of the current xorg.conf,

Yes that idea has come in handy in the past :)
