Hi all,
Sorry to add a few queries in one post. But all are related. While
reinstalling FC6 yesterday, I chose the 'Customize Now 'option and
selected minimal set of programs totally avoiding the 'Development
Package.' Then I got Yumex which enabled me to get the programs like
Amarok and Kaffeine. I thought this would help me to listen to my MP3s
asKaffeine gives an error like some xine related file is missing. I
downloaded XMMS, MP3Blaster but none of these programs can be installed
thethey give an error saying some 'C' ...I think it refers to Compiler- is
missing.
I would like to know if the problem is arising due to my avoidance of
andDevelopment Package while I installed FC6?
As a workaround, I chose to upgrade the installation. It installed
whatever was needed on it own and now after rebooting I get 3 OS. The
upgraded/latest at the top then FC6 as my basic, previous installation
Billboy's XP as Other.
I think the mp3 packages are in the extras repositories for FC6. If not
just use the commandline
$ yum search mp3
to look through the repositories for mp3 modules.
Not sure if you intend to have 3 OS or mistakenly installed 3 OS. If
unintended I'd delete the FC6 partition and start over.
Thanks a ton for your replies. Well, the Grub displayed only FC6 and Other
(Windows). Facing MP3 problems when most programs gave some error, I thought
perhaps this had something to do with my avoidance of Development Package.
Hence, I thought of "adding/upgrading" and inserted FC6 dvd. It checked for
existing FC installation and when I chose "Upgrade" it did something on its
own and installed, what I guess were missing programs but it did not give me
options/list to choose from. When the system rebooted, the Grub now
displayed FC6, latest/upgrade, then FC6 as my previous and Other being
Windows.
Now my question is how do I delete the upgraded stuff? Will removing it from
Grub also delete the programs that it installed?
can
In Ubuntu, the dektop shows the Windows drives too. Is there anyway I
get those drives in FC, if so, how?
NTFS support is now native to FC6, you have to install the modules
kernel-module-ntfs and kmod-ntfs
I dont use NTFS. My Windows is on FAT32. Will this be a problem? Then how
can I access FAT32 Win drives on FC?
Here's a link to mjmwired who's do a great job documenting most of
the detailed instructions for apps you'll likely need for FC6 including
mp3 support.

Also, post installation read the release notes, and make sure you've
installed the important repositories.
YUMEX is very good.
Yumex gives some four options. I would like to know which to select from
"Update Only" and "Load Metadata"
