Nope, in >99,99% the kernel is still running fine, just X hogged
the display. Try switching to VT first "[CTRL][ALT][F1-F6]" which
should give you a VT to login, may take a few seconds. If the
keyboard is stuck, try to login via ssh from another system and
clear the mess. Another idea would be to enable "magic sysrq" and
use this, try a google search on the above. Or one could run an
agetty on the serial port and use this from some laptop/other box
to login.
