Yes, Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy. Well, I just did what you suggested and it looks
like I need to first get some dependencies. But I just had to post the
output I found it hilarious:

$ bash ./configure
*** Nasm is required. Download it from nasm.sourceforge.net
*** Yasm is required. Download it from www.tortall.net/projects/yasm/
Giving up and going to a movie.
