New things can be a bit of a challenge, if you aren't in a club with
some more experienced users.

Did you try to contact any of the clubs?

I do agree, with all the previous thread writers, that trying to program
in a new language, with little mentoring by others with experience, can
easily end in frustration.

At least GNU/Linux is stable and not easily forthcoming with the BSODs
so prevalent in my experience before I converted entirely to GNU/Linux.

When this goal score program is done, perhaps you would publish it on
http://sourceforge.net ?

Thanks all, for hanging in there!

Thanks for info on pclinuxos. I'm downloading the iso now. I think I'll
wipe out Mepis and play with it for awhile. That won't make any difference
as far as installing new software, but it'll be fun to plat with something
new for awhile.

For me, the only real problem I have with Linux is that if a program I
want to install isn't in the package manager, I'm in trouble! It seems
that a great deal of the programs I've looked require compiling and each
has it's own set of dependencies and those need to be complied also. That
will be way over my head for quite awhile yet, but as they say, "If it was
easy, anybody could do it." :)

The Gambas version of the scoreboard program is really trivial and not
really worth publishing and wouldn't be of much use without the remote
hardware. It's almost done and I only spent a day learning the IDE and
enough of the language to make it work. Besides, I don't know near enough
about Linux to support it.
