Does it have webconfig interface ?
if it does you should check if its configuration prevents you from
sending icmp packets or receiving replies.
Okay, the mystery deepens. After reading this, I fired up my ADSL
modem's web configurator interface--which I hadn't done in over six
months--and found the following line checked:
"Ping traffic is blocked from the WAN / LAN"
So...I unchecked it and, voila!, ping is back! :)
Now, please, before everybody starts laughing their asses off...hear me
out. I have NOT touched my modem's settings since July when I set it
up. I couldn't even remember its fucking password, for heaven's sake.
And there is NO ONE else who has access to my computer system, my
modem's settings, etc. Okay, I know what you're thinking. And that's
alright! Believe me, if one of my end-users came to me and said,
"REALLY! I didn't change a thing! It just stopped working all by
itself!" I wouldn't believe them, either. But I really have NOT
changed, or even accessed, my modem's settings since last July, so I
cannot explain this.
I confess. The devil made me do it. ;)
See there, now you're off the hook.
