I like to give linux a try, but don't know where to start.
I use my computer for internet, office, network and sometimes for

Whit office I mean documents of tekst ,spreadsheets, pdf, etc. I think
for every thing there is another program for it.
I got a home network. The network documents are placed at a desktop
whit windows XP pro. I like to use those documents and the printer who
is connected to this computer.
For the games there is a program for it to still play them in linux.

But what kind of linux os system do you think i need. It is for a
laptop ACER Aspire 9412WSMi
I hope this is enough information.

I don't see anything in your note that would indicate that any particular
distribution would be any better than any other. Any recent major
distribution should be fine. I'd suggest you boot several 'Live CDs'
before you install anything. A Live CD will boot and run from the CD with
no install - you get a chance to 'try before you buy'. Then you should
peruse distrowatch.com for a while and probably choose something near the
top of distrowatch's hit page rankings. You might want to consider
installing three or four distros to do a side by side comparison before
making a final decision.
