Linux DHCP problem - authentication?

Hi group,
I googled a while on this subject and did not find anything, sory if
this is an old question.
I have a problem connecting to a DHCP server using a linux notebook.
The situation is as follows:
- We have two notebooks, on notebook A, Linux and Windows are
installed, on notebook B, only Linux is installed.
- After arriving here, when connecting either one to the network and
booting Linux, the DHCP service does not work.
- When booting machine A with Windows, DHCP works, and from then on,
also works under Linux on this machine.
- I cannot get notebook B connected.
My theory is that on the first Windows boot, the Microsoft DHCP client
negotiates some authentication, and then the DHCP server saves the
notebook's MAC address, so after that, he recognises the machine and
allows it to log in. When I use the "dhclient" un machine B, I see
that it gets DHCP offers, but get a DHCPNAK signal, which I think must
be an authentification error.
Does anyone have an idea how to make Linux do the same login procedure
which Windows apparantly does?
The machines run under SuSE Linux 10.1 (machine A) and 10.2 (machine
B).
Thank you,
Henning
