This is a quite old 2.4 kernel, if not upgrading your novell Linux, at least
upgrade your kernel to the latest (you find sources atwww.kernel.org).
lsmod found/worked
lspci not found
This you have to use as root, it's not included in the user path.
x -version not found
The command is case sensitive, you have to use: X -version
/var/log/Xorg.0.log not found
/var/log/XFree86.0.log found ????
Thats the same logfile as Xorg.0.log but for XF86, as you using an old distro
it still uses the XF86, while today almost all uses Xorg.
I have yet to try to install the driver for nVidia nForce2, now to
figure out how to do the install of this thing and which driver to
actually try to install. Downloaded "NFORCE-Linux-x86-1.21.zip" the
package contains a folder for SuSE10 but not for SuSE9. Can I do this
through YaST or SaX2 ? This is taking me back to the 80's and 90's...
The nforce drivers are discontinued, as the support for the audio and network
card has been included in the kernel.
Motherboard is: Biostar M7NCD
Video chipset: North Bridge: NVIDIA nFORCE2 400
Video chipset: South Bridge: NVIDIA nFORCE2 MCP/MCP-T
Will post this and look for the "lspci" command to identify my
hardware.

Thanks for the kernel information, nForce drivers discontinued <arg>
but are included in the new kernel, so I need to......
1) learn how to update this "kernel".
2) learn how to install a "driver".
3) check out the new kernel from http://www.kernel.org (will this
support nForce ? would the kernel be upgraded from the "lifetime"
upgrades ?).
4) check out the upgrades from http://en.opensuse.org/
SUSE_Linux_Lifetime
5) try "lspci" from root, thought I did try it from a root shell, did
a search also....
6) try "X -version" rather than "x -version".
All this so that I can functionally use my old, legacy Linux which was
new when I purchased it - how is SuSE 10.0 ?
Damn learning curve, around 1990 I worked with Unix, now I can barely
spell it. I am still hoping that I do not have to play Microsofts
game of constant upgrades and withdraws from my pocket into theirs -
this damn Vista thing, with their licensing and "feedback for
upgrades" which seems to indicate that I cannot buy one OS to support
my machine and my girlfriends...... Makes this Linux effort
worthwhile.
The good news is that with a direct link to here I can actually read
and post from my Linux machine without a crash.
Thanks,
Scott M.
