Windows /will/ /not/ configure your video card correctly by default "out of
the box". It will almost certainly require a separate driver disk, or at
least require your intervention to choose one of the default drivers (which
are abysmal).
Similarly, Windows will require your intervention for /most/ of your
hardware, and often gets its' hardware discovery wildly wrong. Hardware
discovery on a modern Linux distro is, by comparison, faultless.
Any subsequent hardware changes to your system usually wreck a Windows
install, requiring re-installation and re-registration. They'll only let
you re-register a couple of times...
