It's not a downgrade. It's the officially supported release. You are
confusing yourself.

It's a downgrade.  Note the vesrion numbers. And 6.10 is also an
officially supported release. And I should expect it to work as well as,
or better than 6.06 because it is NOT a beta or testing version. Feisty is
still in testing, Edgy is *not*.

Version numbers? Testing? Beta? No. You are still using a windows mentality
and haven't bothered reading a word I've typed.

Dapper is the version with Long Term Support.
Edgy is the version that updates its repositories with newer but obviously
less well tested packages and kernels.
Feisty is the next generation of Ubuntu and is currently in its testing
phase. It's due to be released in April.

Dapper is the one to install if you suffer hardware problems with either
Feisty or Edgy.

Simple. Logical. It works.

Once Dapper has set up your hardware, it is down to you if you wish to
upgrade to Edgy or Feisty. Both are extremely good OS's. It doesn't change
the fact that they are different.

You are also perfectly entitled to run any OS you want to. I was simply
offering you logical advice about your hardware problem as you seem
unwilling to get your hands dirty and go problem solving.

Still you remain blinkered.
