Emerald Manager shows me a whole list of various themes, but I see no way
to actually activate one...
Beryl Manager just has all sorts of other options but nothing that even
has the word Theme in it...
Window manager is set to Beryl, and decorator is set to Emerald..
Must be something stupid that I am missing but I seem to be too blind to
see it. =)
Did you check the wiki for installation howto for your distro?

Yup, followed it step by step which essentially caused the problem. =)
Their tutorial had me put the beryl-manager into the auto-start which is a
great idea *except* I don't get to see error messages.
Once I took it out of start and started it manually after rebooting the
machine, I actually saw what the problem was and fixed it. It's working
now. =)
It was basically caused by AddARGBGlxVisuals missing from xconf.org for some
odd reason.
Keep in mind that some settings for themes/beryl can make the theme to
fail and you will just get static windows that you can't move.
Yup, that was the exact problem.
