I am relatively new to Linux, having installed openSuse 10.2 a few

still can't get the built-in wireless card to work. I am on an
Averatec 3200 series laptop, with an integrated wireless card. If I
remember correctly, it's using the RaLink 2500 card. Any help,
especially step-by-step, would be great.

As root, run lspci

this will list the hardware on your computer, see if you find the wireless there, on some machines the wireless may be even an usb device, you have in those cases to run lsusb

You can check this page, even if it's a debian description, much of it's the same for other distros too: http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/gene/averatec-linux.html#wireless
