If you really want it easy peasy there is linspire (freespire) or xandros maybe. These intend to give you a functional box with some financial commitment from yourself, though not a lot of money.
They are running a business I think so there are associated restrictions.
If you wanted it easy in terms of traditional linux, then ubuntu or kubuntu (which I prefer) is probably worth considering. It is developing fast, intends to be user friendly and free, but above all, has a helpful and inclusive community. I found the community to be one of the biggest culture shock factors when I started linux.
