Having fun with SmartCTL program :)

That program kicks ***. :)
Especially for us (me and my son) since I -find- computers at the
wildcat shooting ranges around here, many are shot all to hell ;)
but many still have certain drives and memory cards still in
operating order. Believe it? :)
The very first of many is a 20g hard drive just laying on the ground
looking like brand spanking new, waiting to be shot to pieces or
taken home and plugged in. :)
Almost all the drives when booted up and veiwed, appear to be
un-used but what's going on is the hard drive's have been formatted
and restored using their WinDoze restore CD to "wipe them clean"?
Clean or not, we aren't interested in messing with anyone.
Just glad to get free stuff. ;)
So tonight using smartctl found out my 20g hard drive I've been
using for a quite awhile has been powered-up about 200 times but
has ~37,000hrs (4.2y) of on-time and zero mistakes. :)
Me and my son have powered up that hard drive at-least 100 times
ourselves.
Anxious to see what the story is going to be on my 3 latest 40g
hardrives. :)
Cool story? :)
Or "just shut up alvin"? ;)
Anyone else mess with "smartctl"?
Alvin in AZ (killing time, Linux book ain't got here yet)
ps- any gun gnuts here on a.o.l?
