sane-find-scanner

I'm trying to use my scanner, a U12 Plustek on my linux box (slack11,
kernel 2.6.18...).
the sane-find-scanner finds the scanner, but when i type:
# scanimage -T
i get the following:
scanimage: scanning image of size 248x149 pixels at 24 bits/pixel
scanimage: acquiring RGB frame, 8 bits/sample
scanimage: reading one scanline, 744 bytes... FAIL Error: Error
during device I/O
actually between the '744 bytes...' and the 'FAIL Error: Error during
device I/O' there's a gap of one minute.
also everytime just after launching the command scanimage the scanner
makes a very short noise (the head motor) and i nothing.
while on another computer (slack10.2, kernel 2.4.31) it works well.
with the kernel 2.4 the system works with a driver called scanner.c
so i think the driver of the 2.6 kernel is the source of problem. or i
forgot an option before compiling.
