An app I am developing right now, and essentially every app I will be

Keep in mind, if you say "support Linux", then you have the big/little
endian to think about too, quite many architectures uses big endian, but
I guess you only mean Linux x86 and with Mac only "Mactels".
To be honest, my primary targets are Linux and Windows. Mac is sort of a
bonus that I am not all *that* worried about...at least not at this point
in time. I probably won't even really support Mac until someone actually
makes a request for it or asks for it.

So it will work on my Sparc and PowerPC Linux boxes...

Well if you have need for an EDA app...=)

Well I don't generally write applications for the mass-market. I
specialize in either customer-specific applications or high-end
commercial apps. So usually I don't worry about winning popularity
contests with the average user. =)

In those cases you may even earn more one selling support than the
application itself, thats how most of the Linux companies earn money.

We actually make our money off manufacturing more than support. Generally
the prices we charge for engineering support are based on the condition
that we manufacture the design afterwards. Works out really well for
everyone in the long run usually.
