Yep.
this is along the lines of "real programmers only use
assembler" because all of those fancy programming languages get in the way
of really appreciating the archtecture of the computer chip.
Well, since we're here, let's just mention the understanding what
happens behind all the apstractions. It _is_ allways a plus if you're a
programmer. Nobody is saying you _need_ to program in assembler.
Of course, one who hasn't tried it can't understand it.
I would advise you to get a distro that sets things up for you as
much as possible-- because you can always get in there and learn and hack
if you want to. Having the computer do things for you is a good thing, that
is what computers are for.
But what happens if the computer gets into such state where the computer
can't help you?
IME, you learn the most when in trouble :)
Oh, and that dpkg/rpm thing on slackware? Forget it. It can be done
(swaret/slapt-get) but isn't there by default :)
