Hi,
I have rewritten a web page that describes a slightly rocky move
from Windows to Linux and I would love to get a little feedback on

Re mistake 6, my son is in Classics and uses ancient greek. He does
fine with it. But I would have to ask him exactly how he downloaded
the fonts. Yes, it is in openoffice. The main thing you should do is
increase the ram. But that may be hard to do.
I would be very interested to hear more about this from your son. Open
Office seems to be the way to go and I suspect that he uses as I now do
a little addon called Thessalonika. Increasing the RAM on the little
computer is in fact quite difficult: problems openng the case, limited
banks on the board etc.
He uses SPIonic in OpenOffice. It is a true type font.
It might well also work in Abiword or kword as well.
It does work in both as well as openoffice.
And it has the diacritical marks for typing ancient
greek.
In Mandrake you can install it using drakfont. Just make sure that it has
the right premissions after installed.
As root
chmod -R a+rX /usr/share
service xfs restart
I suspect that your attempt to "go cheap" actually cost you. I know
here in Canada I can buy a computer with 500MB of ram, 80GB disk,
keyboard, mouse, etc for under $600.
Exactly my own conclusion! I am in the process of setting this little
computer to one side and writing off the cost as a learning experience.
But prices for new computers in Australia area little steeper than in
Canada by the sound of it. Mind you a friend of mine worked their in

Not in Vancouver. The weather is very similar to that of Melbourne (I have
