I'm looking for a linux distro to run on my Dell D610 laptop. I tried
ubuntu 6.10 but it doesn't work while the laptop is in the docking
station. Apparently it cant detect the external monitor properly. Sound
doesn't work in the docking station either. I guess because the speakers
are in the monitor which it can't detect. Wifi which is another must
doesn't work at all with my Intel 2915abg card. Is there a distro
preferably with gnome desktop that will work with my hardware? Maybe
something where I can just download a live-cd to try it first? Thanks.
Here is a list from www.linux-on-laptops.com

You should get some useful tips from these sites, what you get working in one
distro, is always possible to get working in another one.
In case none of the howtos has a solution for how to get the wlan working,
then it could be good to get the driver from intel,
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=8348&ProductID=1784
I'll try the howto's for the wlan card but none of them deal with the
docking station issue. Working screen resolutions are automatically
detected when working detached from the docking station, but if I boot
up while in the docking station I get a resolution that appears to be
supported by the video card but not by the monitor - 1400x1050. I've
tried the tips for modifying xorg.conf but the changes just seem to be
ignored. It still offers only 1400x1050 no matter what I add to the
xorg.conf file.
